Gardeners on the whole I believe are great at recycling, from creative reuses of old window frames into glass houses, plastic bottles as mini cloches, to the everyday composting. Similarly a glut of plums can be turned into pies, or my favourite, shared with neighbours and friends whilst chatting about your day. Recycling and reusing can be as inventive or as simple as you have time for.
Egg shells are the perfect plant grower handily coming with its own pot holder in the form of a carton. Biodegradable, great for a windowsill – scramble up some eggs first or crack a poached egg with a pinch of salt and then plant. (The remaining tops of the egg shells will be crushed and scattered around my baby plants – hopefully to deter some of the army of slugs that march at night!)
